ROMBOUT FD

APRIL 2004 MONTHLY REPORT

In the month of May, Rombout Fire Department responded to 38 calls. This included twelve motor vehicles accidents, fourteen automatic fire alarms, two medical assist calls, two grass fires, two calls for smoke conditions, one power lines down, one trash fire and one structure fire.  Rombout Fire Department provided mutual aid to Chelsea to stand by in quarters and to Glenham for a building fire at the A-1 Deli. This makes 171 total calls for the year.

A seminar on Scott Thermal Imaging Camera was held on April 12 with members of the Glenham FD and Rombout FD in attendance. The seminar instructed the firefighters on the proper procedures for using this state of the art technology in various situations to quickly find
and rescue victims of fires, accidents and floods. The camera also reduces property loss by quickly locating "hot spots" behind walls from electrical fires or remaining embers after a structure fire which could re-ignite and cause additional damage.

Rombout FD hosted a Med-Evac seminar in conjunction with the New York State Police Aviation Unit helicopter at the Texaco Research Lab on April 24.  NYS Police Pilot Dan Shank and Bill Spadafora,  flight paramedic with Mobile Life, instructed firefighters and EMT's from Beacon  Volunteer Ambulance, Chelsea FD, Dutchess Junction FD, East Fishkill FD, Hughsonville FD, Rombout FD and Wappingers Falls FD. The members were instructed in day and nighttime procedures in and around a helicopter, proper preparation and handling of a victim and what to look for when selecting a landing zone.  The NYS Police Aviation Division responds not only to medical emergencies, but also does environmental conservation missions in addition to transporting and guarding the Governor. They operate out of four locations in Albany, Saranac Lake, Batavia and Stewart and use12 Bell helicopters, including single-engine 307's, twin-engine 340's, and upgraded UH-1 Hueys.

Rombout Fire Department will be hosting a Rabies Clinic on Sunday June 6, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, for more info, phone 845-831-7800.
