FISHKILL — A woman was killed in a two-car head-on collision on Route 9 Wednesday. The accident occurred about 2:45 p.m. south of the Snow Valley Campground near the Dutchess-Putnam county line, Rombout Fire Chief Jeff Marino said. A Saturn heading north on Route 9 crossed over the center line and struck a southbound Jeep. Both vehicles had only one occupant, Town of Fishkill Police Chief Donald Williams said. The female driver of the northbound Saturn died at the scene. The male driver of the southbound Jeep was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Williams said. The names of the victims were being withheld Wednesday night pending notification of next of kin. Rombout Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services responded to the accident and were assisted by the Town of Fishkill Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff's Department and Empire State Ambulance assisted at the scene, Marino said. Route 9 was closed for about four hours. The accident is under investigation, Williams said.
